In a first-of-its-kind initiative, an NRI has not only extended nutritional support to aspiring sportspersons but has also encouraged young athletes to pursue admission to Punjab’s premier sports university. The initiative aims to nurture sporting talent while contributing to the vision of making Punjab a truly “Rangla Punjab” by promoting excellence in sports and encouraging a healthy, disciplined lifestyle among the youth.

Supporting promising athletes, renowned US-based Attorney-at-Law Jaspreet Singh Gill has announced an annual financial assistance of ₹50 lakh to meet the nutritional requirements of 100 talented athletes who secure admission to Maharaja Bhupinder Singh Punjab Sports University, Patiala, and demonstrate the potential to excel at both the national and international levels.

Gill made the announcement during his visit to the University campus, where he was warmly welcomed by Vice-Chancellor Dr. Pushpinder Singh Gill. During the visit, he was briefed on the University’s academic programmes, world-class sports infrastructure, training ecosystem, and various initiatives aimed at nurturing high-performance athletes.

Impressed by the University’s vision and commitment to creating opportunities for talented sportspersons, Jaspreet Singh Gill announced that he would provide ₹50 lakh annually to support the dietary and nutritional needs of 100 selected athletes. He also expressed his commitment to recognising and honouring athletes who bring laurels to the University by achieving distinction at national and international sporting events.

Welcoming the initiative, Vice-Chancellor Dr. Pushpinder Singh Gill said that Punjab possesses immense sporting talent and that the University’s mission is to provide promising athletes with quality education, professional coaching, modern training facilities, and an environment conducive to sporting excellence.

He invited talented sportspersons from Punjab and across the country to seek admission to Maharaja Bhupinder Singh Punjab Sports University and take advantage of the opportunities and support systems being created for high-performing athletes.

Dr. Gill further announced that eligible top-level players would be provided free hostel accommodation by the University. He added that the annual nutritional support announced by Jaspreet Singh Gill would enable selected athletes to focus more effectively on their training and competitive performance.

“Proper nutrition is as essential to an athlete’s success as quality coaching and training. This generous initiative will strengthen our efforts to ensure that talented players are not held back by financial constraints and are able to pursue sporting excellence with greater confidence,” the Vice-Chancellor said.

Jaspreet Singh Gill said that Punjab’s youth possess tremendous potential to excel on the global sporting stage if provided with the right opportunities, professional guidance, and adequate resources. He expressed confidence that Maharaja Bhupinder Singh Punjab Sports University would emerge as a leading centre for producing athletes capable of representing Punjab and India with distinction at national and international competitions.

The initiative is expected to significantly strengthen the University’s efforts to attract promising sporting talent by creating a comprehensive support system that combines quality education, free accommodation for eligible athletes, professional training, and nutritional assistance. It also marks a meaningful step towards ensuring that financial constraints do not become a barrier to sporting excellence.
